From subtle repeats to long sustained notes and massive walls of sound, delay or echo is an essential part of your setup. Delay, or echo, has been employed by producers and guitarists since the early 50s. From experimenting with reverb and tape recorders, to the echo machines of the 60s and 70s and the digital era of the 80s and 90s, delay has always been an important ingredient in modern music. In addition to fuzz and wah, he employed Binson echo machines for delay and reverb. In the late 70s, David swapped his old Binson with more reliable digital units. The MXR Digital Delay provided pristine programmable delay, which was needed for the more complex setups and productions. Throughout the 80s and 90s, David would employ different units used for different applications, including the legendary TC Electronics system. See the David Gilmour Gear Guide for a complete listing. From Animals to present you want a digital delay for cleaner and more pristine sounds. A unit with a display will also allow you to dial in precise settings for songs like Another Brick in the Wall and Run Like Hell.

Jul 16, Hey i’m sorry if this has been discussed before but I know there are three or four different types of “Big Muff” fuzz pedals Apr 22, 2. Nov 3, A Sandgropers’ City, Australia. Every muff I’ve ever tried has had some kind of difference – even when some of them looked alike – so I’d try before you buy. The russian muff like mine tend to be a little more harsh sounding, whilst the USA ones are a bit smoother – other than that, the muff’s seem to change a bit from year to year.
The search function will tell you more. Good Luck. Apr 22, 3. Sep 26, Pasadena, CA. The English Muff’n is in the Muff family – only a distnt relative, really.

Jerry Fulton Cantrell Jr. Although he and Staley each wrote about half of the lyrics in their catalog, Cantrell wrote or co-wrote most of the music. Rest of the guitar Jerry allegedly built himself using instructions given to him by Lynn. He built the body in his high-school wood shop class, which included drilling all the holes and adding contours to the body. The guitar was most famously used in the Them Bones video.

The original Muff Fuzz had just a touch of overdrive and sounded like a vintage amp with a slightly torn speaker. Electro-Harmonix paired two of these together in one box to create the Nano Double Muff. Use just one Muff for a hint of milky distortion, or cascade the second Muff for over-the-top overdrive that turns the milk into cream.

Lee Hazelwood was an early pioneer of fuzz tone, it seems he had a fuzz box created by a radio station technician for use in the recording studio. This is one of the first instances of an electronic circuit being used to create a fuzz tone. Also recorded in was Marty Robbins track “Don’t Worry”, though it wasnt relaesed until January
Discussion and news notes related to the Big Muff Pi, Big Muff users, and other Hey people, I have a V6 with pots dating from but I am not sure of the.
In they now come with true bypass, but the volume is cut a little when ON, while you usually want it at least as loud when ON. Our mod sets the volume the same, and includes an internal trim pot so you can set the volume just where you want it. If left alone, the pedal will feedback and whistle when the volume is increased. This allows reducing the feedback to keep the sound OK. Or if you want the whistling feedback you can dial some in. Here is a picture of the trim pots to give you an idea.
They are marked at our favorite settings no volume loss, normal extra amount of feedback in COLOR mode. Our setting is marked with a black line. Sorry we don’t work on the Russian Small Stone pedals. They are really cheaply made pedals so it’s not really worth modifying them. The switches are really weird, hard to mount a normal stomp switch. Also jacks are attached to the board so they need to be pulled off and replaced with normal jacks, so it’s very expensive.
The USA small stones are inexpensive even with our mods, a much better use of money than throwing good money at bad with the Russian pedals.

They all need to serve a purpose, wether its for practice, stage or recording. Years ago I started out with a Korg A4, which had some pretty nice tones but the internal memory kept erasing my presets so I eventually replaced it with a Boss GT3. This was my main effect unit for years when I portrayed David Gilmour in a local Pink Floyd tribute act. Some pedals, like the Electric Mistress, has always been with me and while I often swap around the overdrives and distortions, the collection or type of pedals has been fairly consistent over the years.
Coming from the Floyd tribute, my boards was very much inspired by David Gilmour during the first Airbag albums. My stageboard is custom designed by Custom Pedalboards , with a flat mounting surface and a tier for the back row pedals. One of my biggest influences tone-wise, is Zakk Wylde. The Dunlop Rotovibe has always been an important part of his tone and personally I prefer this one over a UniVibe.
It just blends better with high gain pedals and I often use the expression pedal to create wild tremolo effects during a solo or ambient part. The signal then travel back to the board and into the Effectrode PC-2A tube compressor. This is pretty much on all the time when I use single coil guitars and often kicked in during certain parts on a solo where I need more sustain.
